GENERAL BUSINESS.
Probus Statement by the President:
As we are faced with the fact that we unfortunately cannot raise a leadership team to carry the Probus Club of the Tropical Tablelands into the future it is now necessary to put to our members here today a motion that the processes necessary for the winding up of our club be put into place. I therefore formally move that the actions necessary for our club to be wound up in accordance with the procedures laid down by the PSPL be put in place. This will result in The Probus Club of the Tropical Tablelands being wound up in 21 days.
It is necessary for this process to proceed to have a seventy five percent acceptance by members present. Are members here today happy to vote on a show of hands, otherwise we will need to go to a secret vote.
(Will need papers in case ballot required. Members showed hands)
Seconded: Brian Elisavitis
Carried: by 75% of Members present
In view of the fact that we are winding up our Club I am now moving a motion that Brian Elisavites and Ron McLucas, who are both well qualified to attend to all of the necessary requirements in accord with the rules of PSPL to be our representatives to oversee this responsibility on our behalf.
Seconded: Ann Moens Carried.
It is now necessary to consider the disposal of equipment and assets and the Management Committee has given much thought to that. I now propose that we hand over to the Eacham Historical Society all of our sound and other equipment and records. All of the equipment has been assembled in one place and accounted for to the best of our belief. After the settlement of all of our financial matters and in keeping with the requirements of the PSPL the funds remaining in our account be presented to the Atherton Rotary Club specifically earmarked to go towards the continued refurbishment of the Rocky Creek World War 2 Army building.
Moved: Ron McLucas.
Seconded: Pam Bramich Carried.
********
Thank you for your support during my time as President. It has been much appreciated. I just want to remind you of a bit of our history. The Probus Club of the Tropical Tablelands has been active for 29 years having been inaugurated in July 1988 when John Stone was elected President with John Wright becoming the Secretary. Do we have anyone here today who was an inaugural member? There is no doubt that over those years many people, and that includes Marj and myself, have enjoyed the friendships which have evolved and also the many activities and trips which have occurred during those years.
I do want to mention one particular and very important event which happened in the clubs history before my time and that was the decision to open the door to our lady members. It was a wise move as our ladies have over the years brought fresh values to the club and no doubt extended its lifetime. I am sure that all here would want those who have been willing to do the necessary tasks to bring planned events to fruition should know that they have our deepest gratitude. It would be interesting to know who here today has held office and so I will ask you to stand if you have had one of the roles I mention. Let's see the past Presidents? Where are the Secretaries? Past Treasurers? Let's acknowledge them with a round of applause. I wish to thank all of you for your support over the past twelve months. I do want to acknowledge those members of the Management Team who have done the spade work of planning and organising our happenings over the past year. I specially want to thank Marja for taking on the task of Secretary, you have been an encouragement to me, Marja. Many thanks to you, Ron for being such a conscientious Treasurer, thanks to you Pam, for your hard work in organising our trips and events and Kathy for sussing out venues for morning teas and lunches. In her absence I want to mention Deanna who used her talents to get us up for heads and tails and other end of meeting activities. Though she is a behind the scenes lady Ann Moens has been a welcome support to me and I have appreciated being able to lean on Brian and Carol for their welcome advice when needed. Thank you too Ken for your work on our website and Helen for her input from time to time. Thank you, Kathy for organising morning teas and Sue for organising the morning teas over the years.
Though this is in some ways a sad occasion, don't let us forget all of the good times we have shared together and we won't leave here today without thinking of how those who want to can make plans for meeting together socially. In closing in want to thank each one of you for the friendships you have allowed Marj and I to enjoy over our years in Probus. On behalf of our Club I want to acknowledge those who have executive positions in Probus South Pacific and thank them for making it possible for us to have been members of the Organisation.
So it is Vale, The Probus Club of the Tropical Tablelands. I want to close by reading our very special and meaningful Probus Prayer with which we have started our meetings for many years.

Other projects are Tastes of the Tablelands which has grown to be a significant regional event.
Donations to children in Cambodia continue to make a difference to lives in that ravaged country and supporting the Hoyal’s work in Nepal with great outcomes in the training of nurses and housing the disabled. More donations have been made to the Royal Flying Doctors, Atherton Hou Wang Chinese Temple, SES, the ambulance and Atherton Hospital auxiliary.
They have constructed and provided 20 prosthetic hands for land and mine victims and hope to complete workshops to construct prosthetic hands and introduce young professionals to Rotary.
A very interesting talk. Thank you, Jo Barnes.

Ron McLucas offered his hearty congratulations to Pam Bramich and others involved in its organisation.

- January function is currently under consideration by Management Committee. It will possibly be a change from the Chinese restaurant visit of past years.
PRESIDENT’S ADDRESSS:
- Glyn Davies began by pointing out that the Probus Club of the Tropical Tablelands, founded in 1988, has a proud history, one that has been recorded in book form as recently as 2013. The Club has exceeded expectations in providing its members with Fun, Fellowship and Friendship over the years. However, he expressed concern that the Club seemed to have lost impetus recently, and had now reached a tipping point. Members were growing older and less willing to take on positions of responsibility. The sense of fun, fellowship and friendship, while still present, had lessened. The time had come for action to ensure the Club’s future. It should have been undertaken two years ago, but it was not too late now. He hoped that action now would restore the vitality of the past.
- Actions needed to reinvigorate the Club are twofold, each element affecting the other. They are:
- A membership drive to ensure recruitment of younger and more energetic members.
- A program of more interesting and engaging activities within the club, at Club meetings in particular, but also with respect to varying Club excursions and entertainments, remembering to cater for a younger clientele from time to time.
- Ron Mc Lucas has prepared an invitation to join the Club to be given out by members to friends and acquaintances.
- At the same time, members will be asked today to think about suggestions for re-invigorating the Club. For example, the suggestion that assistant office bearers be asked to join the Management Committee to “learn the ropes”, as it were. Also suggestions for a range of activities in conjunction with meetings, such as a “Favourite Things” or a “This was My Life” segment.
MEETING CLOSED: 10.30 am and was followed by morning tea and then the workshops related to proposals for Club reinvigoration as mentioned above.
NEXT MEETING: Tuesday 10 November, 11:45 am, Atherton Hotel, following on from visit to Crystal Caves in Main St. Members may attend the meeting without first going to the Crystal Caves if they wish.

After some considerable wait the family caught a flying boat down the west coast of Australia and around to Cairns. At the beginning of the following year she joined other children at the Parramatta Park Primary school and until then couldn’t speak a word of English.
